Every big outdoor project starts somewhere - and for this front yard, it started with getting the ground right. The homeowner has plans for a front patio, and before any of that can happen, the yard needed proper excavation and a solid retaining wall to hold everything in place. No shortcuts here.
We brought in a CAT mini excavator to move earth and cut a clean trench line along the front of the property. Mini excavators are the right tool for tight residential spaces - they get the job done without tearing up everything around them. Once the trench was established and the base gravel was set, we got into block work.
This is where the detail really matters. Each block gets checked with a level, set, and adjusted before the next course goes on. You can see the curved layout taking shape - that curve isn't just aesthetic, it's designed to match the future patio footprint and keep everything structurally sound as the wall rises. It takes patience, but it's what separates a wall that lasts from one that shifts in a few seasons.
The block material is a heavy-duty interlocking concrete retaining wall block. It's durable, handles ground pressure well, and looks sharp once it's cleaned up and finished. The curved section near the house entry is already showing the shape of what this front yard is going to become - a proper, polished outdoor space that adds real value to the property.
Prep work like this is often invisible once a project is done - but it's everything. A well-excavated, properly built retaining wall is what allows the patio on top of it to stay level and stable for years. If your yard needs grading, excavation, or a retaining wall before your next big project, this is exactly the kind of work we do.
